Try something new this summer!
The 2024 bowls season is about to start. If you’ve ever wondered what we get up to on the immaculately manicured greens behind Brenchley Memorial Hall on a summer’s afternoon, we are always looking for new members. No matter whether you are looking to develop a new skill, take up a new hobby or make new friends, the members of Brenchley and Matfield Bowls Club will be delighted to welcome you and introduce you to the game. The Club holds an annual Open Day (April 27th 2024 at 2pm) , or contact us and we will be happy to arrange a trial session for you. You will need casual clothing and flat-soled shoes (no heels -- trainers/plimsolls are fine); everything else you need by way of equipment will be provided. To find out more, please telephone our Membership Secretary, Beverley Holmans (01892 722 317), our Club Secretary, Martin Drinkwater (01892 722 883), or the Club Chairman, Hilary Ayshford (01892 723 630).
Bowls is not a difficult game to learn and everybody -- male and female, old and young, fit and unfit, able-bodied or physically challenged, left- or right-handed, tall or short or anywhere in between -- competes on the same level. Played in a spirit of friendly rivalry, it is a very sociable game and you will be assured of a warm welcome and plenty of help and advice to get you started. The Club is particular keen to attract younger members -- bowls has long tended to be regarded as a game which one takes up in retirement, but this is no longer true (if ever it was!).
